Holland, Mehta pics join Berlin mart

In its fifth year, the mart, which helps producers searching for international investors and co-production partners, runs Feb. 10-12.

Holland will present “The Last Mission” from Poland’s Bow and Axe Entertainment, while Mehta will looking for partners for “Carpet Boy” from Paris-based Arsam Intl. and the U.K.’s Lucid Pictures.

Two new Romanian projects are among the selections, which stem from 25 countries: “Outskirts,” by director Anatol Reghintovschi, based on a screenplay by European Film Award winner Cristian Mungiu (“4 Weeks, 3 Months and 2 Days”); and “Aurora” by Cristi Puiu.

German helmer Philip Groening (“Into Great Silence”) will be on hand with his new project “My Brother Robert.”

“The Hunter,” by Iranian helmer Rafi Pitts (“It’s Winter”), will take part in the World Cinema Market section. Pic was among the recent selections for funding by the World Cinema Fund and its producers are now seeking international partners.

A total of 59 projects from the market’s first four years are already in production or have been completed, among them Luigi Falorni’s “Heart of Fire," the true story a girl soldier in the Eritrean civil war; which has been selected for this year’s Berlinale Competition.

This year the market received 378 submissions from around the globe. The budgets of this year’s selected pics range between $1.4 million and $18 million, of which at least 30% has to be already in place.

Three projects will also be presented at the Rotterdam-Berlinale Express in partnership with the CineMart Rotterdam, while 10 newcomer projects from participants taking part in the Berlinale’s Talent Campus will also be showcased in the mart’s Talent Project Market.

The Co-Production Market will also offer a number of events, including case studies on current film financing schemes, “country tables” at which producers can gain information on co-production strategies and options for specific countries, informal “speed matchings” and the annual “Breakfast & Books” meeting with the Frankfurt Book Fair, where producers can meet with publishing reps who will flog titles for possible screen adaptations.

The mart will again be held in Berlin’s House of Representation, located directly opposite the European Film Market venue.
